First one is my Valentine Glyph for graphing.
The kids loved collecting data this way. It's much more fun gathering and showing data than just writing it down or making tally marks. Then we made a bar graph to organize and record the data. They really had fun with it.
The other project is a reading competition between the 2 second grade classes. We're trying to build an excitement for reading books and taking Reading Counts comprehension tests on the computer. Every time the kids pass a test, they get to add a circle to our class's caterpillar. The class with the longest caterpillar by June wins an ice cream sundae party and the losing class has to serve them!
The first 4 days of the contest our kids passed over 50 reading tests!!! They are really motivated and it's going to help their reading fluency and comprehension on top of it! Every time we go down the hallway, they are so excited to see who is ahead.
Every time a student in my class passes a Reading Counts test on the computer, the whole class cheers. It's really fun! So we are thinking this is probably the best project we've done so far this year.
