Extreme Couponing

Please tell me your watching this...

I'm speechless right now. {well, not really}

Um...Dumpster Diving to get Sunday coupons?? I see why the show is called EXTREME Couponing. This chick really had her kid and pregnant friend going through dumpsters to find Sunday ad's. SMH...

I'm not going to lie, I was {maybe still am} really excited about this show, BUT I'm starting to realize this may not be for a family of 2, 3 or even 4...more like a day care or something. I just heard this lady say she needed 40 bottles of Pasta Sauce. Really? What are you going to do with that...make Italian food for 3 months straight? Y'all, I'm telling you these people are a little off. I think they're just obsessed with finding deals and just buying to get it for free. I'm sure 3/4 of this stuff gets wasted.

I like coupons and price matching but I don't know if I have the energy to ask everyone I know to save them for me. {well, actually, consider this my public request...send your coupons my way} I do this on a much smaller scale and have felt the rewards at the register. It's a little bit like a rush...for real.

Here is my question for all my blog friends. Do you think you save more at a place like Walmart who does price matching + coupons or like a Kroger where they do double and triple coupons and reward cards? Just curious.

  1. I do not coupon, I think it would be pretty overwhelming and besides hygiene products I don't really buy boxed items.

  2. I think you're right. I am having anxiety just watching. I used to coupon when I stayed home, but not to this level of course. It is very very stressful shopping like that and matching whats in your basket to coupons. I do think the dbl and trpl coupons are the way to go if you're gonna do it. I also think the level to what these people are couponing is similar to hoarding.

  3. Yep, these people are dedicated! i've tried to clip coupons...Bottom line, too time consuming and I forget the dang things when I head out to the store! But, I guess EXTREME coupon-ers have a 3 ring binders and go to the websites for coupons too?!!? Crazy! Not enough time in my day. Oh and I tried to go to Homeland because they double your coupons and it didn't work because their prices were $.50-1.00 more.. There's my two cents! ahaha!

  4. I saw the preview for this show a couple of weeks ago and set it to record tonight. I cannot imagine doing all of that couponing. I am excited when I have just a few of them.

  5. What?! I have seen previews for this show online, but we are not back in the states just yet. Glad to know it is awesome :) haha. Wow, what will they come up with next!?
    Stopped over from the Texas Bloggin' Gals site. Have a good one!

  6. I never coupon. I probably should, but it is just too much effort. Also, the time I would spend doing it would probably make the savings mute. In an ideal world there would be an app that automatically compares the items in my cart to coupons and require no clipping or effort. Until then... :)

  7. I haven't watched the show...but then I have Netflix, not cable (hmm...maybe it's on hulu). But, I have to admit, I've fished out newspapers out of the trash can for coupons. It wasn't like a dumpster though, it was just my apartment trash bin and there was a pile of about 10 newspapers right on top. After that I tried to always check on Mondays to see if they had dumped a bunch. The coupons are right in the middle of the whole newspaper and mostly people just tossed mail there anyways, so it wasn't like it was dirty.

  8. My 16 y/o has worked at Publix for about 5 months now and is a cashier. She said >>>Mom.We.Have.To.Do.This!<<<
    So we have done it for two weeks now. We don't go dumpster diving...augh...even if it is recycling! But we bought an extra Sunday paper and with a few websites and blogs, we printed some coupons and then copied them in black and white to save the color ink. We have no stores near us that do double and triple coupon. But a few GREAT tips we learned was that at Publix and Walgreens you can use a manufacture's coupon AND a store coupon on one item. You CAN also use four coupons when it's a buy one get one free {BOGO} So that has saved us a lot of money....we only did Publix and Walgreens and last week we ended up with 12 HUGE tubes of toothpaste FREE, FREE, FREE!
    I was so excited I took a picture of the check out screen {embarrassing my teen!} and posted it on my blog.
    I love coupons post!
    So we're in!!! and we're hooked!!! & we're all for it, but only by doing it as a family and only if it takes an hour or two a week...nothing crazy!
    And one last thought about what does someone do with all that extra FREE stuff? We decided as a family to put the toothpastes {and anything else that we get a crazy abount of...}into our church's backpack program that supplies food for each weekend to children so poor they have nothing to eat when they aren't at school getting free breakfast & lunch. {many at my school}

  9. This show totally shocked me too! I am all for clipping and using some coupons.. but this is just ridiculous. These people are hoarders! How much tooth paste or pasta sauce could you possibly need in your lifetime??
