I've been searching High and Low for actual lessons you can do with your class with iPad's. I know there are TONS of educational games out there...but I haven't found many that I could use in a whole group setting...until now. :)

October Happenings

Happy October (nine days late) 

I've had every intention of blogging about all these things this last week, but just never got around to it. SOOO...you get an all-in-one post.

College Week 2011.
I started this at my school 3 years ago and it's still so much fun! We all decorate our doors or wall space for our Alma Maters and talk about College all week. It's a lot of fun...we do tons of activities and the kids just love it. Here was my little set up this year. GO POKES!

 The kids all made pendants for the college they want to go to. We had A TON of TCU and Texas flags.

Bridal Shower.
A good friend of mine is getting married this December in Jamaica. We went to her first bridal shower today. It was a 70's themed roller skating party. We went as the Jamaican Roller Derby Team. It was so much fun...and man, my legs are still burning!

Football.
I've been super excited to become Facebook friends with an OSU photographer. He has been posting all the pictures from football games over the years. I'm loving getting to see my love bug play football...and I have a good feeling all these pictures are going to come in use very soon. :) Here is one of my favorites. I think its 2003 vs Texas Tech...right after his touchdown. :)

Long Division

Thanks to Pinterest, I found a pin explaining how to do some VERY easy long division. Now this find comes about two weeks too late. I spent a week DREADING the days I taught long division. It is just sooo hard for them. So I am very happy to find this...and share with you. :)

The EASIEST Long Division EVER!

 Here is the traditional way that I teach, you know, the one that makes us want to pull our hair out! 

 And here is the easy way. Different Problem...

How many times does 4 go into 8? 2 times.

How many times does 4 go into 9? (without going over) 2. 

One is left over, so put it before the next number

 How many times will 4 go into 17? 4 times.
One is left over, so put it before the next number

 How many times will 4 go into 14? 3 times with 2 left over. No more numbers, so that is your remainder.

HELP!

Does anyone have any great educational app suggestions for IPads? (K-6) We just got our mobile lab in and we have money to spend on apps. I have NO IDEA what's good...for school, that is. :) Anyone have suggestions?

September 15th

One year ago today, I got a phone call that would change my life forever. I will never forget it...like I know the exact stop light I was at. My dad was in the hospital...and in excruciating pain. My heart broke like I've never felt before. Within a week he had to have his kidney removed and we got the devastating news that it was cancer.

I guess they say time heals all wombs...I prefer to say God does. But, if anything this experience has taught me to cherish my family more than ever. I love them sooo much it hurts.

Fast forward to three days ago. It's back. I think this time hurts even more than the first call. So much I can't even think about it at the moment. I love my dad so much and I don't ever want him to be in a situation where he's scared, or hurt, or in any pain. I wish I could make it GO AWAY...forever! And to make matters worse, I live 283.5 miles away.

I write this today because I know people read it, and if you're reading this right now, please just say a little prayer for my dad.
