Angels Over Me

I just wanted to share a picture I took last night. I just love when God sends his little reminders to let me know He's in control and I'm safe under His wings. Clearly, I needed I BIG reminder last night...and boy did it work.  He is in complete control! Isn't this picture amazing though?!?

Teacher Week: Meet the Teacher

Meet the Teacher Monday

1. I am Katie. I teach 5th grade Math to all the 5th graders at my school. This will be my 5th year teaching in 5th. Previously, I taught 4 years in 4th grade teaching just about everything. Gosh, it just hit me how OLD I sound now. This is my team that I love to pieces.

2.  I have wanted to be a teacher since I can remember. I was THAT kid who took all the teachers old worksheets home and played school all night. Oh, and it was like Christmas when they would give me blank "Progress Charts" which is what they would keep all our grades on. When all my friends were probably asking for Nintendo's for presents I was asking for chalk holders and lesson plan books.

3.  I am an Oklahoma girl 'til the day I die....but I was offered a great job in Texas that I couldn't turn now I'm an Oklahoma girl, living in Texas. I literally found out I got the job, drove home and had 3 days to pack up and be back down here...for good! It was a hard adjustment at first and I was as homesick as someone can be....but I love it now.

4.  I wear a lot of hats at my school. Other than being a 5th grade teacher, I am the Student Council sponsor, Campus Technology Liaison, (I teach teachers how to do stuff computers) 5th Grade Team Leader and Multicultural Day Coordinator. Whew!

5.  My mom and sister are both teachers as well. My mom is in elementary and sister is a high school history teacher.

Pinterest Inspiration

I used this cute little sign as my inspiration for my door this year. Inside of using to display rules {or expectations} I chose to use it with what we'll be learning in Math. It's kinda driving me crazy that its not all symmetrical, but its growing on me. :)

Classroom Done.

I've been a busy little bee this week. I got to the point this evening that I felt like I was just walking in circles and getting NOTHING I made sure my room looked good for Monday and I had everything I needed...FOR MONDAY.  I figure I can worry about Tuesday and the rest of the week on....Monday??? It just seems like everything else in the world came up today and I got nothing done. Oh well...

Here is my room...ta da!

 View from the door
 Nametags. I decided to let them pick their seat this year.
 My version of Math Workshops taken from Clutter Free Classroom
I loved this idea so I am trying it out with my 5th graders this year.

 Computer Area.
 Reading Area.
 Back corner of the room, looking at the door.
My cosy little nest. '

That's it. I'm...whatever is worse than exhausted. I'm too tired to think of the word. Peace. I'm out. :)

Busy. Busy.

I've been a little M.I.A. lately for good reason. Last week I was completely soaking in every second of my summer vacation and now, well...I'm back on the grind. Hard at work. Today was our first day back in our rooms. Thanks to Pinterest and the blog world, I'm incorporating a TON of new ideas. The first one being tissue paper pom poms. You can see a quick Martha Stewart step by step here.

So that's what I've been doing tonight. Folding, Cutting, and Fluffing.
I'm sure later in the week I'll post pictures of Room you can see how I used them. :)

A friend sent this to me today and it was just to good not to share. It's my last day of summer vaca {womp, womp} so I'm soaking every second of it up. I'll be back in full Back to School mode next week, I'm sure. :)

True Life: I am a RANDOM Blogger

My name is Katie.
I started Katie Lately in July of 2010.

I blog about the most random things.
For a while {for instance now}
 I feel like all I talk about is school...
Sometimes it feels like I only do party ideas...
Sometimes Recipes...
I link up with other blogs a lot...

I love to get great ideas
{especially teaching}
from blogs.

That sounds good for now.
I'm out.

B2S Resources

I came across a blog the other day that I pretty much fell in love with. Yes, for real. Ms. Jasztal from Jasztalville: Where Inquiry and Creativity Rules has some pretty amazing things for back to school that she's sharing with us. I've already downloaded a bunch of ideas to start the year out with. :)
Check out what I took...I'm super excited about them.
Please, Please, PLEASE go get these {and other} FREEBIES. You won't be sorry! :)

Another great resource I found on her blog was a link to ...

Math Resources from MathLearnNC: "This website is the creme de la creme of incredible math websites." If you have never visited this website, it is appropriate for the elementary level, yet a lot of ideas can be adapted for middle school students. My most favorite thing that I CANNOT WAIT to use is the "Week by Week Mathematics Essentials."

I hope you guys go check this blog out...and find it as wonderful as I have. :)

Free Shutterfly Photo Book

Guess What?!?!

I received an email today from Shutterfly today about getting a FREE Photo Book! Their books are so fun! My favorite thing to do is make a photo book after we return from a trip. It keeps the memories alive and is always a fun thing to go back and look at. We also used Shutterfly for our Christmas Cards this year. They turned out uh-mazing and I got lots of compliments on them. :)  I've been looking on their site  today and found some great party invitations as well. I've pretty much fell in love with a few baby shower invites too. So much fun stuff to look at on their site.

Have your own blog? You can register for a chance to win a photo book from Shutterfly by clicking here. {check out below too}
